I was around dickish people while I was drinking. The put-downs, the one-upmanship, the flaking, friends not acting like friends unless I had something to offer them. Then I join AA, and a whole new set of those friends'. Not all to be sure, but enough. I didn't ask anyone who talked down to me to be my sponsor. You can tell me the truth, you can say things that might hurt my feelings, but there are ways to do all of that without being a dick. AA's all about NOT being a dick.
